Some water might remain in the system so keep a small bucket handy. If you are connecting the refrigerator water line to the sink water line the piping below the sink typically has its own hot and cold shut off valves. Usually the water main will be in a basement or garage. Turn on the main water supply and open the supply valves.

Under sink shutoff valves also called fixture shutoffs or stop valves allow you to turn off the water to the sink or other fixture without having to use the home s main shutoff. Shut off the water to the whole house than take the pressure off the water lines. Insert the new valve and apply a very light coating of pipe dope to the compression sleeve. If this happens to you you can simply replace the valve with a new valve that matches the old one.

Your first step is to shut off the water to the entire house at the meter. Learn how easy it is. Tighten as necessary until the joints are sealed. Then drain your home at the lowest point.

Next screw the compression nut onto the valve until snug. Shut off the water supply to whichever line you plan to source the water from. If it doesn t you can shut off the main water supply to the house instead. First step turn off the water to your house.

That way when you cut into the water line you won t get a face full of sprayed water. Hold the valve with a wrench or a pliers and tighten the nut a one half to three quarters turn follow the manufacturer s tightening instructions. To replace a kitchen or vanity faucet and add a shut off valve just follow these steps. Then cut copper pipe with an autocut tool.

Next use a wrench to loosen the water supply tube from the adapter. Opening up the outside spigot is a great way to relieve the pressure. Plan where you ll place the shut off valve. These inexpensive little valves rarely get used and when they do sometimes they leak.
